LAS LAJAS, LAGUNA DE LA COCHA & POPAYAN (Columbia)

Las Lajas is a basilica church built across a canyon near the town of Ipales, which is close to the border with Ecuador. It was built between 1916 and 1949 through donations from churchgoers, and sits on the site where a miraculous event occurred in 1754.

La Laguna de la Cocha is a Ramsar wetland area which is very popular with locals especially. The village nearby, although obviously largely geared towards tourism, is quite quaint.

Is known for its colonial buildings, which are mostly painted white by decree, hence also being known as the 'White City'.
